Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

We hope everyone has had a pleasant start to our 2020 academic year.

Our school’s Pastoral Care department has changed our title to Pastoral Care and Wellbeing, (PCW), for 2020 onwards. There is a focus on student wellbeing and care embedded in all our initiatives, which is now reflected in our new department title.

Additionally, from this year forward, we will begin implementing a curriculum designed specifically to cater for our students’ progress and development during PCW subjects. Course curricula will be designed independently from years five to ten. In years seven and eight, curriculum focus will be Identity and Personal Development and in years nine and ten, the focus will be Social Justice and Dialogue.

Each course will have practical components where students will have the opportunity to implement their acquired knowledge and skills. These courses are enriched with content from a number of respective fields and aim to address our students’ needs holistically, while nurturing them with positive thinking and confidence-boosting strategies.

Mother-Daughter Brunch

Our IDC staff members Nurdan Karakulak and Leyla Yavuzlar organised a fantastic mother-daughter brunch for year 7 girls on 29th February, as a welcome to the 2020 academic year. A range of team games were organised for the mothers and daughters to participate in together and the teachers organised a great feast for year 7 girls and their mothers.

Year 8 PWC Excursions

IDC Year 8 boys enjoyed a fun-filled educational camp during the Labour Day long weekend.

Year eight girls enjoyed a day filled with fun and excitement with their PCW teacher Mrs K, and mentor Ayse Yuksel, at Luna Park.

Year 9 PWC Excursions

IDC Year 9 boys enjoyed a fun-filled Pastoral Care Excursion in term one. They visited the Melbourne Star, practised their skating at the Melbourne Ice House and finished off their day with a meal at Gozleme King!

IDC year nine girls had a great day on their Pastoral Care Excursion. They visited the Melbourne Star to observe Melbourne from 120 metres above, followed by a feast at Gozleme King, then back in action with ice-skating in Docklands.

It was a great opportunity for the year nine girls to come together outside of the school and have quality time with their friends and teachers.

Year 9

In preparation for the first round of the Debaters Association of Victoria Schools Competition, our year nine DPS students took part in an intensive training session conducted on campus by a member of the DAV. Throughout this interactive session, our team was able to unpack a topic, devise arguments both for and against the topic and begin to map out how to present a case from both the affirmative and negative perspectives. A great deal of insight was given to our students about the debating process and how debates are adjudicated. We thank the DAV for providing us with this opportunity and wish our debaters the best of luck in their competitions.
